TRANS THANE CREEK WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

Established in November 1998 to benefit members of Thane Belapur Association (TBA) for minimizing and disposing of Hazardous waste generated by Industries.

Trans thane Creek (TTC) area was established by the State Government of Maharashtra through its agency Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in earlier sixties to encourage industrial development in Thane Belapur area in Thane district in the state of Maharashtra.


MORE THAN 2200 INDUSTRIAL UNITS

Today TTC is the one of the major industrial zone in the country & has all types of industries including Chemical, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Sheet Metal, Engineering, Dyeing & Printing Breweries, Electronics and Paper numbering more than 1500 industrial units out of these, about 250 industries generate Hazardous Waste as per the Hazardous Waste (management & Handling) rules 1989 outlined by the Government of India under the Environmental Protection Act, 1986. Thane Belapur Industry Association was established on 15th August, 1978 to inspire and encourage industrial activity and harmonize relation amongst members to archive common cause. It is a premiere representative organization of the industries located in Thane Belapur Industrial Belt.

SOME FACTS

However, as there was no suitable arrangement for safe disposal of hazardous Waste, Thane Belapur Association (TBIA) decided to set up a centralized integrated Waste Treatment Facility. For the purpose, TBIA formed the company called “Trans Thane Creek Waste Management Association (TTCWMA)” which operates on “No Loss- No Profit” basis. These Industries representatives elect the Board of directors and chairman for TTCWMA who become the governing members for control and operation of TTCWMA.
